To make Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour of your life
The Bible’s teaching on this can be summed up in four points:
1) God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life; He wants a personal relationship with you
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life – John 3:16
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full – John 10:10
2) People are sinful; sin has separated us from God
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord – Romans 6:23
3) Jesus Christ is the answer to the problem of sin; He’s the only one that can bring us back to God
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” – John 14:6
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8
4) You must personally receive Christ as Lord and Saviour and trust Him to forgive your sins; his is a choice to choose to live for Him
Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – John 1:12
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me – Revelation 3:20
Giving your life to Christ is as simple as A-B-C:
Admit that you are a sinner and need forgiveness.
Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave to bring you to God.
Confess, through prayer, that Jesus Christ is the only way to God, and commit to live for Him the rest of your life.
If you’d like to do this, you can pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have done wrong things. Please forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. I choose to live for you. Come into my heart and change my life. Amen.
If you’ve prayed this prayer for the first time either here online or at one of our services, please do let us know. This is the start of a relationship with God and you’ll never regret it. Becoming a Christian does not mean problem-free living but it does mean that you can navigate even the darkest times of life assured of God’s presence. It also means you can experience, both now and in eternity, the greatest privilege of all: relationship with Jesus. We’d love to support you in outworking this decision so that you can develop an intimacy with God, grow as a Christian and live out God’s purposes in your daily life.
